Conflicts: how do personal histories shape AI characters?
How can personal accounts of a disagreement become the starting point for conversations between AI characters? In Conflicts, characters draw their histories and views of one another from surveys and conversations. They meet in a simulated Los Angeles.[1]
A series of films follows their encounters, exploring how conflicting personal accounts shape generated dialogue.

How do characters acquire different accounts of the past?
Surveys and conversations inform the characters’ personal traits and their views of one another. They appear as avatars in an Unreal Engine environment based on downtown Los Angeles, where language models generate their dialogue.
What happens when those characters meet?
Characters enter conversations with their own accounts of shared events and their own views of the other participants. The resulting encounters become the material for a series of films about how they express these conflicting perspectives.
